- The Medical School Hypnosis Association brings together medical students, medical practitioners and professional practitioners of hypnotherapy who share an interest in hypnosis research within medicine.
- The MSHA will seek to co-ordinate research projects, creating an infrastructure which will facilitate new projects and replication of existing projects.
- The MSHA team will assist in the creation of protocols and act as an information forum for new research teams.
- The MSHA will promote the use of clinical hypnosis in the medical setting.
- The MSHA advocates the use of ELISA biomedical testing and GAD questionnaires as a way of providing data for meta-analyses regardless of the specified subject being researched.
- Advice will be given to researchers on obtaining ethical approval.

All research undertaken will contain identical stress, depression and lifestyle questionnaires. Further, saliva samples* will be collected and assayed for cortisol, prolactin and melatonin levels.
*Note: For ethical approval, saliva sampling is subject to the Human Tissue Act.
All samples will be destroyed after use.

The MSHA committee consists of three student representatives, one scientific advisor, two consultants, two hypnotherapy researchers and the committee Chair.
